Carpentry repairs are most of what we do, and they are how most customers meet us. A door that will not close, a rotten window bottom, a gate that has dropped, a floor that creaks — small jobs, done properly, by someone who turns up.

What we get called for
The jobs, not the capabilities
Most carpentry repair pages list services. Here is what people actually ring about, in roughly the order they ring about it.
- A door that has dropped, sticks, or will not latch

Repair before replace
Most things are worth mending
A replacement window is often quoted because it is quicker to fit than it is to repair. But a sash with a rotten cill does not need throwing away: the rotten section is cut back to sound timber, a new piece is scarfed in and shaped to the original profile, and the whole thing is primed and painted. It costs less, it lasts, and it keeps the thing that made the house worth buying.
The same goes for doors, staircases, gates and skirting. In a period property it is usually the right answer as well as the cheaper one — modern mouldings do not match old ones, and a house with three different architrave profiles in it never looks right again.
Where something genuinely is beyond saving we will say so. Remaking a Victorian door to match its neighbours is a job we are happy to take on, and it is a better outcome than a stock door with the wrong number of panels.

Under-stair rebuild
An under-stair space opened up and reframed, then finished with a reclaimed panelled pine door and tongue-and-groove to match the original hallway.
Horsebox converted to a home office
A rotten horsebox with no floor left in it, taken back to the frame and rebuilt as a fully lined timber room — new floor, pine tongue-and-groove throughout, lighting and power.

Questions
Carpentry repairs — common questions
Is any job too small?
No. A single sticking door is a perfectly good reason to ring. Being based in Trowbridge means a half-hour job is still worth doing properly rather than needing to be bundled with something bigger to justify the drive.
How quickly can you come out?
For a small repair, usually within the week. We are one carpenter rather than a firm with several vans, so we cannot promise same-day — if something is genuinely urgent, say so when you ring and we will tell you honestly whether we can help or whether you need someone else.
Can you repair rather than replace period joinery?

Do you do fencing, flooring and plasterboarding too?
Yes. Garden fencing, gates, wooden and laminate flooring, cladding, decking and plasterboarding ceilings are all regular work — several of our Google reviews are for exactly those jobs.
