The workshop
Palmer’s Woodworking is a small joinery and carpentry business run by Alex Palmer from a workshop in Trowbridge, about 35 miles from Salisbury. Everything is made and fitted by hand, by one person, from timber chosen for the job rather than whatever the merchant had most of.
For Salisbury customers that usually means second fix joinery and fitted work: new doors and door linings, architrave and skirting, staircases and balustrades, fitted wardrobes and alcove joinery, and repairs to windows and external timber. Bespoke throughout — there is no standard range to pick from.
A good deal of Salisbury is period stock, and much of it inside the ring road is listed or in a conservation area. Matching an existing moulding profile, replacing like with like, and scribing new joinery to walls that stopped being straight a century ago is ordinary work here rather than a special request.

New door linings squared and fitted through a whole house, doors hung to close on the latch first time, then architrave and skirting run throughout and mitred to the corners the house actually had rather than the ones it should have had.
Timber
Oak, ash and walnut for hardwood joinery and anything that will be on show. Accoya and idigbo for external doors and windows, where movement and rot matter more than grain. Redwood for painted work, because it takes a finish better than whitewood and holds a mitre. Everything is finished properly — oiled, waxed, stained or painted — before it leaves.

Had wooden back gate made by Alex for side of property. Excellent craftsmanship and quality gate made of high grade materials fixtures and fittings as required to make it very secure.

Yes. Much of Salisbury inside the ring road is period stock, and a good deal of it is listed or in a conservation area. Replacing like with like, matching an existing moulding profile and scribing to walls that moved a century ago is ordinary work for us. Listed building consent is the owner's to obtain, and we will tell you plainly when we think you need it.
About 35 miles from Trowbridge, which is a comfortable working distance for joinery of any size. We price travel into the job rather than adding it as a surprise line at the end.
Enquiries for joinery in Salisbury climb sharply in September, and that is exactly when lead times stretch. If you want work finished before Christmas, a July or August conversation is the comfortable one.
